Need an introduction to SR&ED? Contrary to popular belief, the Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) program holds a scope far broader than the narrow understanding of a pure researcher, even including medical doctors, engineers, and other assorted professions within its fold. However, more often than not, a lack of comprehension of its eligibility criteria or even an insufficient grasp on the nuances of this program prevents others from benefiting from this valuable source of funding.

Sometimes, reading more text doesn’t help — which is why we’ll be delivering an in-person introduction course to SR&ED in Toronto on September 17th, 2015.

This course will deal with every aspect of a typical beginner’s SR&ED experience and will discuss relevant technical and financial information, as well as contemporary insight on policy guidelines and compliance using real-life case studies and case rulings from the Tax Court of Canada. Our industry expert and course instructor Elizabeth Lance will also walk you through every step from application to claim submission, and even current Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) review and dispute resolution processes. Furthermore, attendees will also be introduced to and made familiar with several other guides and walkthroughs providing clear examples on this journey to success.

The topics covered in this introduction to SR&ED will include:

  • SR&ED: Overview and History
  • Overview of Investment Tax Credit (ITC) Rates: Federal/Provincial
  • Key Definitions: Income Tax Act & Glossary
  • Claim Forms & Guides (Technical & Financial)
  • Key SR&ED Policies (10)
  • Review & Dispute Resolution Processes (including Claim Review Manual)
  • Request for Information Letters/li>
  • Significant Case Law Body & Precedents (Historical and Current)
